I live in the Land Down Under

July 02, 2002
Phoenix knows that the nut barrel *lives* on top of the pantry cupboard.
This morning he decided he'd help himself, pried/chewed the lid until it
came off and voila !....ALMOND !!! Cheeky boy he is, and he knows it,
check out the expression.

Phoenix at 30 days

Phoenix at 34 days

Phoenix the Red Tail Black Cockatoo.

Phoenix was incubator hatched and handraised from the egg by his breeder. He came to me at a month old and from that very first day it was magic. Phoenix weaned early for his breed, which I'm sure can be contributed to the fact he thinks he is human and much prefers to eat what we eat, when we eat. But he still, to this day, enjoys a spoonful or two of formula.

Phoenix celebrated his
1st Hatchday on the 24th May 2002, and yes, he received presents of lots of wooden toys. Which I might add, lasted about a week before they were reduced to toothpicks. The wonderful even temperament of a Red Tail Black is something to behold. The unabashed affection and closeness he craves is like no other bird I have met and I am rewarded tenfold with his love. Not to say he isn't independent, he is, very much so. But given his way he would rather be attached to you (or anyone, for that matter) like a velcro bird. He literally is one in a million.
