The program subject matter was COALBED
METHANE DEVELOPMENT. Within that program Mr. Moyers interviewed
Mr. T. Boone Pickens about his plans to develop and market water
from water rights he holds on his land southeast of Amarillo,
Texas.
Mr. Pickens forth rightly explained
proposals to build a 180 inch. diameter pipeline from the Texas
panhandle to Dallas, Texas or further south. When Mr. Moyers
asked how Mr. Pickens would market the water Mr. Pickens indicated
he would develop the project to bring water to the area that
would bring the best price for the water. Mr. Pickens explained
the estimated cost of the project would be around $1.2 billion
with a possible return of about $600 million in profit.
Mr. Pickens went on to explain a bit
about Texas law, water rights, and allowable drawdown. Mr. Pickens
also adressed lightly the future use of desalinization of salty
water to obtain sufficient potable water.
