IN MEMORIAM

Thanks to Ben and Gloria Ridgway the last two years of Rosco's life was one of tender love
care and reasonable comfort for Rosco. Rosco is a great spirit that will remain with us.

Rosco Grey parrot is a 45 year old Congo African Gray Parrot, who came to White Wings Farm on September 10, 2001. Following his original person's death, Rosco was relegated to 8 years in a garage, in primarily either darkness or dusky light, and a diet of nothing but wild bird seed, As a result, Rosco had suffered from chronic malnutrition and had permanent physical damage. A twist to his torso from atrophied muscles, totally blind in one eye, and a large cataract with a small tail ending in another dot in the right eye (this right eye is shown in the photos below). Due to a SEVERE calcium deficiency, resulting in weakened muscle strength, he was unable to climb much, and spent a LOT of time on the floor of his house. He was also in suspected Chronic Kidney Failure. Our Avian Vet, Dr. Pam let us know, that the ONLY recourse was good diet, and constant care. There were no guarantees; the damage was extensive.

CONSERVANCY OF THE PHOENIX

This page is dedicated to Gloria Ridgway, her husband Ben, and to Shauna Roberts and Avian vet Dr. Pam who saved this wondrous creature from certain death. Their efforts are a primary example of Love, caring, and the Symbiotic Relationship.

The specially developed diet, the Rosco Diet, may be reviewed at the White Wings Farm website. This diet is heavily responsible for restoring Rosco to a measure of good health. Constant care, weighing, and observation by Gloria assisted Rosco in staying the path. Rosco had a bumpy path of up and down loosing weight, being hand fed and medicated; TLC got him though it all.

Rosco is a gentle loving parrot who has adopted Ben Ridgway as his best friend.

Rosco's having a best friend again surely boosted his spirits.
(Dec. 2002) Rosco is blind in his left eye, note it is swollen.

"Rosco's vet said right out that Rosco's bonding with Ben could only have a positive effect on Rosco. It was his reaction to Ben that showed us how really loved he had been by his original companion.....those 8 years in the garage must have been simply hell for him"

Wait Dad, I want to keep this.
