ROWDY AND BEEMER
Rowdy is a Pacific Parrotlet and Beemer is the baby Blue Front
Amazon
Since the first day we brought
Beemer home, Rowdy has fussed over him, trying to regurgitate
for him (reaching that mouth is a problem!),
carefully preening his pinfeathers, and sometimes just snuggling
with him. He has absolutely no concept of how small he is compared
to this baby. Sometimes he jumps into the brooder with Beemer
and snuggles underneath him for a nap. When he does, it looks
for all the world like Beemer is sitting on a squashed parrotlet,
but I always know he's okay because of the happy little muffled
parrotlet songs drifting out from the darkness.
Now Beemer is old enough to begin
to appreciate (and sometimes object to) Rowdy's attentions. In
the second picture he was attempting to
preen Rowdy. He was not very successful, really, mostly just managed
to clomp his beak on Rowdy's back, but as you can see, Rowdy thought
it was just wonderful.
