| The goddess Artemis was sometimes known as the "Mistress of Animals" and the protectress of children, but she was also a huntress and could bring death with her arrows. She was Apollo's twin sister and taught him the arts of medicine and archery. The cypress tree was sacred to her as were all wild animals, but especially the deer. She is also called the goddess of the moon. In Roman mythology, her name is Diana. |
